The climate in Katy is typical of a humid subtropical zone. Summer weather here can be dangerous, as conditions are hot and quite dry. Temperatures often reach over 90 degrees, including a majority of days between June and September. Triple digit temperatures are also possible, and residents need to be cautious of flooding and strong storms during hurricane season. When stuck indoors due to dangerous weather, Katy residents rely heavily on their central air conditioning systems.

Normal mean temperatures in January are in the low- to mid-50s, and while this is much warmer than other parts of the U.S., home heating systems are still needed.
